Winter does not end on December 26. Nordic knits, snowflakes, mittens and cabins carry a cozy, hygge feel from the first snow through February, without a single Santa in sight. That makes winter paper some of the most useful in a stash. Here are projects for the long, quiet season.
Winter styles to choose from
- Fair Isle and knit patterns: sweater-style bands of stars, trees and snowflakes. Try Nordic Winter or Snowy Hygge Knits.
- Snowflakes and night skies: soft blues and silver tones. Try Celestial Snowflakes or Glacial Moon Whisper.
- Cabins and pines: woodsy, warm and rustic. Try Nordic Cabin Pine.
- Cozy kitchen winter: mittens, teacups and cocoa. Try Cozy Winter Mitten or Frosted Teacup Post.

Nordic Cabin Pinefrom $4.991. A hygge journal
Make a small junk journal for the winter months: books to read, recipes to try, walks and small pleasures. Knit patterns for the cover, snowflakes and plaid for inner pages, and a few envelope pockets for tea tags and notes.
2. Snowflake garlands and window stars
Print a light snowflake pattern on text-weight paper and fold it into paper stars or cut it into snowflakes. Strung across a window, the printed pattern adds detail that plain white paper does not.
3. Cocoa bar and tea labels
Set up a hot cocoa bar with printed labels for jars of marshmallows, cocoa and sprinkles, and a small sign. Round labels cut from a coordinating paper look great on mason jar lids.
4. New Year and thank-you cards
A winter design works for New Year cards, January birthdays and thank-you notes after the holidays. One pack covers them all. Card sizes are in our card guide.
5. Winter scrapbook layouts
Snow days, skating trips and cabin weekends deserve their own pages. Knit patterns make great borders: cut a band from a Fair Isle paper and run it across the top of the page. For full 12 x 12 backgrounds, see how to print 12×12 paper.
6. Gift wrap that is not Christmas
Winter birthdays and January gifts look wrong in Christmas paper. Snowflakes, mittens and pines are seasonal without being holiday-specific. See printable gift wrap.
7. Decoupaged candle jars
Thin strips of knit-pattern paper decoupaged around a glass jar make a cozy candle holder. Keep the paper on the outside of the glass and use LED candles. Steps in our decoupage guide.
