Every digital paper pack comes with a license, and the license decides what you can make with the papers and what you can sell. Shops word their licenses differently, so always read the file that comes with your download. This guide explains the three levels we offer at Hearth Paper, with real examples for each, so you can pick the right one before you buy.

Personal license
The Personal license is for crafters. Print the papers as often as you like for scrapbooking, junk journals, cards, gift wrap, decoupage and other projects for yourself, family and friends.
It also covers small handmade sales. If you sell cards at a craft fair or journals in a small online shop, you can use the printed papers in up to 500 physical items per design. That is enough for most hobby sellers.
What it does not cover: print on demand, any digital product, and sharing the files. If a friend loves a pack, send them the link to the shop rather than the files.
Commercial license
The Commercial license is for makers and small businesses who sell in volume or sell digital products.
- Unlimited physical items. No cap on the number of cards, journals, boxes or tags you sell.
- Print on demand. Use the designs on mugs, shirts, notebooks, phone cases and fabric sold as physical goods through any POD service.
- Backgrounds in digital products. Use the papers as backgrounds in printable planners, invitations, templates and social media graphics you sell, as long as the paper is not the main item and buyers cannot pull it out as a standalone paper. A flattened planner page with text and boxes over the pattern qualifies. A “set of 10 patterned backgrounds” does not.
It still does not let you sell the paper files themselves, as JPG, PDF or a paper pack. That is what the Resell license is for.
Resell (PLR) license
PLR stands for private label rights. It lets you sell the paper files as your own digital paper pack, unchanged or edited, under your own shop name. It includes everything in Commercial. There are limits: your buyers get only a personal or commercial license, never resell rights, and you cannot give the files away in bulk or upload them to free download sites. We explain it in detail in what is PLR digital paper.
Examples: which license do I need?
- I make a Christmas album for my family. Personal.
- I sell about 200 handmade cards a year on a craft site. Personal covers up to 500 per design. If one design becomes a bestseller, upgrade that pack to Commercial.
- I sell notebooks with my cover designs through a print on demand service. Commercial.
- I sell printable party invitations that use a paper behind the text. Commercial.
- I want to sell a “farmhouse digital paper” pack built from your designs. Resell (PLR).
- I want to post the pack in a free Facebook group. Not allowed under any license.
